Fire Protection Systems (FPS) Information

An FPS is a closed, non-circulating system that can become a stagnant reservoir of untreated water. These systems are ideal environments for microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). MIC accelerates buildup and leaks in fire sprinkler piping.

Buildup and tuberculation nodules can affect the designed hydraulic performance of the system. In an emergency, nodules can break off and plug sprinkler heads. Leaks cause property damage and lost production. Buildup symptoms include dark colored water with a rotten egg odor on flushing or draining, interior tuberculation blockage, positive biological test, or pin-hole leaks.

Herc Products has developed their MIControl® Program to provide system owner's with data and solutions to, step-by-step, cost effective decisions and the service to carry them out.
